In the same ancient site, we will be visiting the Great Sacred Tree, Sri Maha Bodhi which was a branch of the original Sacred Bodhi tree of Lord Buddha. This branch has been brought by the daughter of King Ashoka the Emperor of India after she became a Buddhist monk. The Sacred Sri Maha Bodhi is one of the key changing points of Sri Lankan history and this is one of the main icons of Sri Lanka as a Buddhist country.

In Anuradhapura we will be entering the sacred ancient site of Anuradhapura. Ruwanweli Maha Seya is the largest Buddhist construction in Sri Lanka, this stupa has a broad history which goes back to King Dutugemunu who constructed the stupa. Legend says that King Dutugemunu was old and sick, therefore he couldn’t see the finishing of the construction. This construction was made by King Dutugemunu with a Goddess called Swarnamali, Originally the Stupa was named as Swarnamali Maha Seya
